The proposal was presented to Parliament’s ICT Committee by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance during the FY 2026/27 ministerial policy statement meeting held on Thursday.
Permanent Secretary Amina Zawedde informed the committee that the funds are intended for the purchase of broadcasting equipment, acquisition of rights, and production for both television and radio.
She added that part of the budget will also go toward promotional activities across eleven stations.
UBC projects to earn approximately Shs 2 billion in revenue from the tournament.
While some Members of Parliament expressed support for the request, Committee Chairman Hon. Tonny Ayoo called for a more detailed breakdown of the expected revenue, noting that the current estimate is based on figures from last year’s CHAN tournament.
MPs also raised concerns about UBC’s outstanding debt of Shs 100 billion and questioned the current repayment plan.
Zawedde confirmed that the Ministry has written to the Ministry of Finance seeking additional funding to help clear the arrears and ensure proper preparations for the event.
